Monday- Day 2!

We started our day bright and early at 6:45am! We headed down to the dining commons to get our breakfast then began our first day of core classes: Cybersecuirty, Biotechnology, Math Counts, Forensic Science, and Engineering Design. The girls explored the science behind building bridges, starting their own business, solving a crime using crime scene analysis, and understanding DNA.

After a morning of hands-on learning full of questions and experiments, the girls enjoyed lunch then workshops. In these workshops, the girls rotated between two of the four different stations: cap the gusher (a team-building exercise), explorations of Newton’s Law, experiments with polymers, and a lesson on patterns.

Following workshops, a presentation on teamwork was made for the girls to learn more about working in groups and collaborating so they will be successful with their presentations later in the week. They learned the Tech Trek song, “Best Week of My Life” which they sang together before dinner.  After dinner, we returned to Villalobos to learn about how to give a presentation, and the girls saw examples of good and bad presentation techniques.

The girls then returned to the dorms where they researched a 21st century female in STEM and began creating a presentation about them. The girls happily went to bed after a day full of tips and tricks on how to speak-up, ask questions, and explore different fields of STEM.

After you pick up your girls at 9am on Saturday, make sure to watch their presentations at 10am that they have been working very hard on!
